Cancers and bacteria develop resistance to drugs in remarkably similar ways

Since I’ve worked in both antibiotic and cancer drug research, the topic of microbial resistance makes me think of the way tumours become resistant to chemotherapy. This may seem like an odd comparison (single-celled prokaryotes vs more complex eukaryotes; infectious pathogens vs human cells…) but the similarities are real.
